CDC data continue to show the importance of vaccination for immunity to protect against severe symptoms and poor outcomes of COVID-19 and flu — including hospitalization and death. In 2023, over 916,300 people in the U.S. were hospitalized due to COVID-19 while more than 75,500 died from the viral infection. In addition, during the 2023-2024 flu season, about 44,900 people are estimated to have died from flu complications.

Right now, researchers are seeking volunteers from all ethnic backgrounds to join a local research study. They want to assess how well an investigational combination vaccine can protect against both COVID and Flu when given as a single shot together (in adults of all races/ethnicities).
Since viruses can mutate (or change), new strains (or variants) are always emerging. For this reason, we must continue to develop new vaccines as well as new approaches to vaccination — and research studies like this one are how we do just that.
In this study, for example, by combining Covid and Flu vaccination into a single shot, if eventually approved, it may result in more people getting vaccinated, making it safer for all of us.
Rest assured that even if you qualify and choose to enroll, you may leave the study at any time, for any reason. Additionally, all personal information will be kept private and your health will be monitored throughout the study.
